I don't wait for joy to show up. I actively pursue it. I just finished a 5-year project curating all the good news in the world (and Far Side cartoons). It's all tech, medical and energy breakthroughs that I believe will save us. In dark times, I hope it shines a light.
David, you replace “therapy” with practice — and that quietly strips joy of its rarity. In your piece, joy feels like recovered simplicity, not a goal but a breath we can remember. And the cat isn’t just a meme here — it’s a reminder of what we’ve forgotten: to live without postponing life itself.
No, I have never postponed happiness, nor joy. They are, like excitement and love, resources we humans are given. Like you said, joy is in us. One reason I so much enjoy watching your cats is that they EMBODY the wisdom I am still in the process of uncovering and encouraging in my own life. Helpful cats indeed, David. When life feels a bit heavy, and it does so once in a while because of pain and tiredness in my body, what saves my bacon is reminding myself of joy, smiling (friendly!) at myself and if possible check in with Helpful cats. Love to you all! Maria
Maria, your words are such a gift - thank you for sharing them. I love the way you describe joy as something we can gently return to, even when things feel heavy. It makes me so happy to know the cats bring a bit of comfort and playfulness into your days. Sending you and your “helpful cats” all the love and warmth in return!^_^
Thank you, David, and bless your generous heart. I see so much wisdom in you, my friend, and I am glad that we have met on this platform. I love wisdom you see, I have even written a poem about it... And yes, I admit that comfort means a lot when there are some rough patches in my life. And there are. I have late in life learnt to acknowledge my strength, not only all my weaknesses. Now I am learning to find the balance, without glossing over the pain, or let it consume me, but acknowledge it and then when I am ready to return to strength and joy. It's a danse that takes time to learn.
Thank you Maria! I think finding that balance between honoring pain and returning to joy truly is a dance, and it’s inspiring that you’re embracing it with such grace.^_^ I hope you have a great day!
superb videos and good motivations - as usual David. Domestication by humans with all the love/food has resulted in such lovely cat behaviour. Thanks again
David, the video of the cats imitating humans was hysterical - I don't know where you get those, but they are wonderful!
Thank you Rhetta!^_^
